Allegory of the Arts, XVIII secolo

oil painting on canvas
cm 60 x 50
oil painting on canvas in gilded wood frame and carved in three orders. & nbsp;

Monogram lower right F.S. for Francesco Solimena (?). Neapolitan School

The small painting depicts the god Apollo with the laurel wreath, lying on a pompous baroque cloud. He presides over the Fine Arts, represented allegorically by three tender putti bearing the iconographic attributes of Sculpture, Painting and Architecture. The sun god holds in his fingers a gold chain that binds the arts together as a sign of union and balance. The work that was transiting in Belgium in 2015 was already attributed to the great Neapolitan painter Francesco Solimena for stylistic concordances and for the monogram F.S. lower right, painted on the scroll that runs to the feet of the putti.
