Saint Joseph with Child, seconda metΓ  del XVIII secolo

oil on canvas glued on board
cm 44 x 34

oil painting on canvas glued to an oval table, inside a carved and gilded wood frame with a double coeval order.

The small canvas depicts St. Joseph holding up the child sitting tenderly close to him on a red velvet cushion and wrapped in a strip of white fabric. The child affectionately embraces his father and with his right hand indicates the fruit he holds in his hand. According to the traditional iconography, Saint Joseph wears a dark robe with a yellow ocher cloak and on his shoulder bears the flowering rod, an attribute that immediately identifies him and refers to the miracle of the flowering of a dry branch, which made him choose as husband of Maria.
