Francesco Trevisani e bottega
(1656 - 1746)

Triumph of Neptune and Amphitrite

oil painting on canvas
88 x 115 cm
The painting is easily attributable to a young student of Trevisani, who meticulously follows the teachings of the Master (see in particular the features of the eyes and noses of the characters) thus executing a work ascribable without too much delay to the workshop.
As often happened it is possible that even in this case the execution started from "models" designed by the Master himself, then painted by the students and finally retouched by his expert hand. This practice is amply documented by the inventories of the workshop and of the painter himself. In an antique gilded frame, small drops of color on the bottom right. Original canvas and frame, with some consolidation and reinforcement on the reverse
