Justus de Gelder
(1650 - 1710)
Attributed to

Wayfarer with dog and landscape

pen and ink on paper
12.3 x 11cm

The drawing is the work of Justus de Gelder, an artist active in the workshop of Nicolas Maes and influenced by the style of Rembrandt.

Recent studies have given him the opportunity to attribute a Corpus of works, defined by a vigorously emphasized line, mostly composed of a series of drawings already defined as the "Pseudo-Maes group" and once attributed to Nicolaes Maes, now rightly reassigned to the Dordrecht-born artist.
< br>The work bears an ancient label on the back with the inscription "34, Rembrandt, Dessin". Defects.

We thank the Cabinet de Bayser for their help in cataloging the lot.
